CU1 Financial Knowledge Scholarship

Credit Union 1 is excited to introduce the Financial Knowledge Scholarship, which supports graduating seniors from DeKalb, Sycamore, and Plano high schools. Five scholarships, each valued at $1,000, will be awarded to students who demonstrate financial literacy, community involvement, academic commitment, and clear plan for higher education. 

Eligibility & Requirements: 

  • Be a graduating senior from DeKalb, Sycamore, or Plano High School (Class of 2025)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Attend a mandatory CU1 financial education workshop. Workshops will be held:
    • DeKalb: April 3rd
    • Sycamore: April 4th
    • Plano: April 9th
  • Demonstrate community involvement through volunteer work
  • Submit a completed application, including:
    • A 3-to-5-minute video that shares your personal story, community involvement, and thoughts on the importance of financial education.
    • High school transcript
    • Letter of recommendation (optional)

Application deadline is April 21st, 2025. Winners will be announced May 1st.

  2. Upload a 3-5 minute video covering:
    • Your Personal Story: Share your educational goals, career aspirations, and the role this scholarship would play in your journey.
    • Your Community Involvement: Detail your community service, volunteer work, leadership, how these experiences have shaped your growth and aspirations, and impact on your local community.
    • Financial Education: Share your thoughts on the financial education workshop, your key takeaways, and how you will use the information in your future.
    • Additional points to cover (optional):
      • What’s one financial lesson you’ve learned (from experience, family, or social media) that has changed your perspective on money?
      • What do you think schools should teach about personal finance that they don’t already?
      • What’s your dream career, and how do you plan to manage your finances to achieve it?
      • Fast forward to age 30—what financial goals do you hope to have accomplished by then?
      • If awarded this scholarship, share how it would benefit your future?
  3. (Optional) Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, school counselor, or community leader.
