December was a month full of giving, community engagement, and festive celebration for Credit Union 1. The Community Relations team kicked off the month by making a generous donation to the Evergreen Park Public Library Foundation, supporting youth programs and financial literacy efforts that positively impact the local community.

This set the tone for a month dedicated to service, learning, and holiday cheer across each of our branches. The Archer Heights branch participated in the Lumity Financial Wellness Seminar for young adults, providing practical financial guidance and resources to help students make informed financial decisions. Archer Heights also attended the Midway Chamber of Commerce’s 42nd Annual Snack with Santa event, where children met Santa, shared wish lists, and received holiday giveaways from local businesses, fostering community spirit and engagement. At the Evergreen Park branch, the Sierra House Food Giveaway offered families in need a chance to receive essential food items and holiday support, demonstrating CU1’s commitment to providing resources and care to our community members. Meanwhile, the Matteson branch hosted a Pictures with Santa event in their lobby, creating a festive experience for members while also collecting donations for the branch’s Toy and Winter Accessory Drive to benefit the MJG Movement.

Several of our branches contributed to holiday toy drives across the country. The Sycamore, and DeKalb branches collected toys and delivered donations to Hope Haven in DeKalb. The Northlake branch participated in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, fulfilling holiday wishes for children in the community. The Rantoul branch was particularly active this month, volunteering at the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, reading to students through the Head Start Book Mentors program, distributing holiday support through the Holiday Bureau at the Community Service Center of Northern Champaign County, presenting financial wellness at the Multicultural Community Center Christmas Recital, attending the Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce After Hours, and engaging families at the Rantoul Community Pancake Breakfast and Resource Event.

Across all branches, Credit Union 1’s December activities highlighted our commitment to community service, financial education, and holiday giving. From educational seminars and food distributions to toy drives and festive gatherings, our employees and volunteers came together to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve, spreading support, cheer, and financial education to children and families throughout the country.
