April was an impactful month at Credit Union 1 as we celebrated Financial Literacy Month and completed our CU1 Cares Food Drive, delivering over 5,000 non-perishable food items to communities across our service areas. From educational outreach to meaningful volunteerism, our teams made a wide-reaching difference.

We hosted and participated in numerous financial literacy events across our branches. The Community Engagement Team presented at multiple middle schools, Scott Joplin Elementary, Delta Summit Learning Center, Alan B. Shepard High School, and more—engaging hundreds of students in budgeting, saving, and credit education. The Matteson, Rantoul, Evergreen Park, and Hobart branches hosted or participated in literacy events including sessions on credit basics and financial education. Sycamore, DeKalb, and Plano hosted a budgeting class tied to 5 - $1,000 scholarships to be given to attendees.

Meanwhile, the CU1 Cares Food Drive was a tremendous success. The Lombard branch delivered a record-breaking 1,001 lbs. to Glen House Food Pantry and Matteson donated over 500 items. Our community outreach didn’t stop there. Branches volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Bradenton and Plano, helped distribute Easter baskets in Northlake, participated in SOAR in 4 in Bradenton, and Plano attended a community baby shower to support new mothers.

We also strengthened professional connections through events like the National Louis University career fair, the Sycamore Business Expo, and the Belle Tire Meet and Greet hosted by the Matteson branch. The Lincoln Park branch continued their monthly service at the homeless shelter, providing warm meals and connection. Together, our April efforts showcased CU1’s commitment to financial empowerment and community care.
