CU1 Family Makes a Generous Donation to a Local Cause.

What started as a Facebook post on her personal page asking for donations to help buy books for children in need, caught the attention of CU1 team members and turned into a viral response with donations.

LOMBARD, IL (12/9/22) Jessica Holmes, CU1 Accounting Generalist, is an active member in the Rantoul Theatre Group (RTG). Members of the RTG started reading to 3 – 5-year-old kids as part of the public television’s seasonal program. The kids enjoyed hearing the stories so much, the RTG decided to continue reading to the kids after the program ended and extended to reading year-round to get books in the hands of these kids. The project began about 10 years ago and was funded by a generous donor. Jess and the RTG began collecting donations for the group to buy bulk books and crafts.

A different book is selected each month and read to the classrooms monthly on Tuesdays. Each child receives their own copy of the book that they can take home and does a craft project that goes along with the book. The program received such a warm response that they expanded and now read to the baby and pre-school rooms.

A few CU1 team members started an internal chat talking about how they could help. People started adding more and more people into the thread creating a viral response to the cause. The CU1 Family was touched by Jess’ request for donations and individuals pulled together donating over $1,700. Credit Union 1 is donating an additional $5,000! The team surprised Jess with the presentation of a balloon bouquet with the donation.

Thank you to our CU1 team members for doing great things in the community!
